The saga begins
Our journey began in the year 1910, about a hundred years back with Anandji Bappa. He was originally known as Pedhiwala Soni or a jeweller in Faradi, Kutch, in the Indian state of Gujarat. His son, a young visionary, traditional goldsmith boy named Kanji Anandji, at an age of a mere 15 years, moved to the port city of Mandvi and started his career. After acquiring most of the jewellery making skills and gaining invaluable experience in it, he moved to Aden, in Yemen in 1950s’. Another port city on the sea route between India and Europe. Aden was part of British India till 1937.
Kanji bhai stayed there. He worked hard and progressed immensely in Aden. He learned the nascent techniques of working on machines, in jewellery making. Finally, he decided to return back to India. Immediately after his arrival, he pioneered in the field of producing diamond cut bangles, chains and casting jewellery using machines, in India. He chose his native place Mandvi to setup Soni Kanji Anandji Industrial Estate in the year 1966.
The next generation, and a new level
Meanwhile, Kanji bhai sent his elder son, Rameshchandra to study the jewellery manufacturing at Birmingham in England, in the year 1962 Young Rameshchandra studied thoroughly as how machines can be brought in to improve productivity, in making various jewellery items with exquisite precision. After completing his studies, he worked at the prestigious jewellery manufacturing units in Switzerland and Germany for some time. Soon after his return to India, the father and son duo decided to start a jewellery manufacturing unit and an export house in Mumbai (Bombay then), the financial capital of India.
What started on an auspicious day of 28th July 1968, in a quiet corner of the Royal Industrial Estate in Wadala, Mumbai as the only manufacturing unit and export house, gradually ventured into retailing, due to the near and dear one’s demands.
In 1975, fully trained and capable, younger brother of Rameshchandra, Narendra bhai entered the family business and progressively took care of the manufacturing. Rameshchandra balanced the fundamental business operations by focusing on exports, wholesale and retail sales. Soni Kanji Anandji jewellers established itself well in the 1970s’ and 80s’.
Who we are today
The present generation, Hiren bhai, the elder son of Rameshchandra Kanji joined the flourishing business, in the year 1986. Hiren bhai is the name to reckon with in his Kutchi Gujarati community. His younger brother Jignesh Rameshchandra, followed his footsteps in the year 1992. Today, Hiren bhai & Jignesh bhai both are taking brand Soni Kanji Anandji to astonishing heights.
